Please check local regulations for: Dartmoor National Park
One of Dartmoor National Park’s grandest tors, Great Mis Tor lies in the park’s west, just to the north of the wonderful moorland town of Princetown. Like most tors, the hillside is littered with ancient remnants of times gone by. The remains of medieval settlements, old blowing houses (once used for smelting tin) and hut circles can all be found here.
The true draw of Great Mis Tor though is its impressive granite top. With multiple stacks perfect for scrambling over, there’s no better feeling when summiting a tor than to stand on top of its giant rocks. In good weather, the views are wonderful.
Explore one of Dartmoor’s most elaborate tors
Just north of the road linking Tavistock to Princetown, Great Mis Tor is particularly easy to reach and there are multiple car parks nearby. Occupying open moorland, you can reach the summit from any direction but it’s fastest from the south. The tor lies in a military firing range and is only accessible when the range is not active. This part of the range is the Merrivale Range, and you can check the schedule here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dartmoor-firing-programme Due to the location, it’s vital that you never touch any metal objects that you might come across, lest it be unexploded ordnance.
When you reach the top, the views can be fantastic on a clear day. To the west, the park winds down towards Tavistock and its patchwork surrounding fields. To the north and east, Dartmoor fabulous undulating moorland rolls onwards. You can see several other granite-topped tors from the summit.

These stone formations in the barren landscape of the Dartmoor are really mystical, especially with a bit of mist around.

A good area just on boundary south of merrivale range. Not far from parking at four winds. Recommend keeping clear of mis tor marsh in the wetter months of the year.
