The Rifflsee (also called Riffelsee) is the largest lake in the Ötztal Alps and lies near the Kaunergrat.
The Rifflsee, a Moränenstausee, lies above the Pitztal near the Kaunergrats and its nature park. The lake is surrounded by the beautiful mountains of the Ötztal Alps and the rugged peaks of the Kaunergrat such as the Seekogel (3,358 m above sea level) and the Rostizkogel (3,394 m above sea level). From Mandarfen the "Rifflsee-Bahn" starts, which takes you into the wonderful mountains. From the mountain station of the gondola lift it is only 5 minutes to the lake. If you want to combine the lake with a hike, some hikes from the Pitztal are recommended or you can go from Mandarfen through the Hirschtal. The last mentioned hike takes you to the Rifflsee in two hours. Also from the lake itself start several hiking trails, such as the Fuldaer Höhenweg, the hiking trail Rifflsee or the secured Gletschersteig, which is only recommended to experienced climbers. In winter, the area around the lake then becomes a ski resort with 41 km of slopes, the Pitztal Glacier - Rifflsee.Altitude: 2,232 m asl

During the one-and-a-half-hour raft ride, you will enjoy a breathtaking panorama and you will find interesting details from the history and the presence of the valley. The raft is powered by an electric motor, so that the Pitztal glacier railway consistently continues the path of sustainability. The raft trip can be booked directly on site at the ticket offices of the mountain station and in the restaurant Sunna Alm am Rifflsee. The Rifflsee is the largest lake in the Ötztal Alps. The mountain lake lies in the Kaunergrat west of the Pitztal and is a typical Moränenstausee. The lake fills an extensive valley, the glacier-turbid water looks greenish. It is framed in the north and west by rugged peaks of the Kaunergrat, particularly striking are Seekogel and Rostizkogel. In sunny and warm weather a considerable amount of melt water is supplied by the Seekarles-, Loch- and Rifflferner.
The lake is accessible from Mandarfen (1682 m) with the Rifflseebahn. On foot, the lake can also be reached by Mandarfen through the Hirschtal (the steepest and most strenuous ascent), there are also other easy slope variants from the Pitztal.
The Rifflsee is always worth a visit ... just beautiful, but also a very popular destination ...

Easy to reach and beautiful lake above Mandarfen. There are two possibilities for climbing of varying difficulty or the opportunity to reach the lake by gondola - the latter often leads to a well-visited destination in summer. Nevertheless, a worthwhile goal
