The Finsterroter lake is a reservoir that serves as a bathing and fishing lake. It is located on the district of the eponymous village Finsterrot, which belongs to the municipality Wüstenrot in the district of Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg and is located in the Mainhardt forest; on the eastern shore runs the county border to the municipality Mainhardt in the district Schwäbisch Hall.

The lake is located 200 m from the edge of the village on the eastern edge of the district in the upper valley of the Dachsbach which feeds it. This 4.2 km long creek flows a good kilometer farther south into the here west-east flowing red. The lake is located completely in the conservation area Burgfrieden - Upper Dachsbach. To the water surface of the lake of about 2 ha [1] is still a 1.5 hectare large Schilffläche, which is protected since 1986 as a large-scale natural monument. On the hill to the west of the lake, the Evangelisches Jugendwerk Weinsberg operates a youth recreation center, which is mainly used in summer.
