Walmendinger Horn

Not necessarily an insider tip and also a bit crowded as many people take the cable car up to the summit. In return, the installations are well developed: there is a very large sun and panorama terrace, a bar and a summit restaurant.

From the Walmendinger Horn you have a great view towards Widderstein and the Ifen. If you want, you can also go by train. From the mountain station it is a few steps to the summit, which are worthwhile.

The Walmendinger Horn rises on the north side of the Kleinwalsertal valley to the west of Mittelberg at an altitude of 1,215 meters. To the north, the terrain drops into the valley of the Schwarzwasserbach, to the south and east to the Breitach. A cabin cable car, the Walmendingerhornbahn, has been leading to the mountain since 1966. In 2006 the summit station and the valley station were renovated and a viewing platform and a sun terrace were built at the summit.

From the summit you have a great all-round view of the Allgäu Alps and the foothills of the Alps. A nature trail leads from the Beegbahn to the summit.

The Walmendinger Horn is a popular vantage point in the Kleinwalsertal. Its central location enables a magnificent panoramic view of the peaks of the Allgäu Alps and the Lechquellengebirge. Particularly impressive is the close-up view of the imposing Großer Widderstein and across the Schwarzwassertal to the striking Hoher Ifen and the karst plateau of the Gottesacker Walls. A cable car takes visitors from Mittelberg almost up to the highest point of the Walmendinger Horn. In the summer months you have to reckon with a high frequency of traffic in the summit area, even during the week. Nevertheless, an ascent is always worthwhile because of the beautiful panoramic views. In addition, several rustic alpine pastures on the Walmendinger Horn lure you in for a stop.

Quite full up because of the mountain railway. But great 360 ° view of Kleinwalsertal, Ifen, Widderstein.
Walking up from Mittelberg is great, but sometimes very steep. Just down towards Hirschegg. Difficult, rooted and steep, but also beautiful.
