Carfax Tower is all that remains of St Martin's Church, which was the official church of Oxford from 1122 until 1896, when it was demolished to make more room for the traffic. Upon climbing the 99 steps to the top of the Tower, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Oxford’s skyline. It costs £3 to enter the tower.

Built in 1032 as a tower of St. Martin's Church. The clock dates from the 14th century. The church itself had to give way to a widening of the street around 1900 - but the tower is standing.

If the queue at the entrance is too long: the Saxon Tower 150m further down the pedestrian zone offers almost the same view (from almost the same height).
