It dates from the Romanesque period (approx. 1000 to approx. 1250). Today's inner entrance door and the high window in the sanctuary in the southern longitudinal wall of the church are reminiscent of this origin.
The church can be assigned to the type of Romanesque hall churches, which had no entrance portal on the west side.

The Saara Church is a rectangular hall church with a pitched roof and two ridge turrets. The face of the clock is attached to the smaller of the two ridge turrets. Instead of the twelve numbers, the motto reads: USE THE TIME. Two vestibules on the south and north side from the years 1522 and 1687 open up the building. A sacristy is attached to the east. Massive pillars structure the enclosing walls.
