‘Gilmore Peak’ is one of the three low peaks east of the Sargent and Penobscot Mountains, along with ‘Bald Peak’ and ‘Parkman Mountain’.
At the end of May we hike on the ‘Grandgent Trail’ from ‘Parkman Mountain’ to the summit. We are on a six-peak circular hike with ‘Sargent Mountain’ as the final destination. The differences in altitude between the mountains are small; however, the forest path leads steeply over hill and dale down into the mountain valley and back up again.
On ‘Gilmore Peak’ we have a wonderful view of the two low rocky peaks to the west and ‘Sargent Mountain’ to the east.

Gilmore Peak is one of a collection of underappreciated small peaks to the west of Sargent Mountain. To the south and west, Bald Peak and Parkman Mountain sport views of Somes Sound and rocky terrain. To the north, the nearby Grandgent Trail makes for a unique steep ascent of Sargent Mountain dominated by roots rather than rocks.
