Art along the canal – various sculptures and a shepherd monument

Kunst am Kanal is an art project that has been created along the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal since 2003. To date, 6 sculptures have been created in the Berg municipal area near Neumarkt i.d.OPf. at various locations sculptures designed by regional and international artists. The sculpture entitled The Earth is not a perfect sphere is an arrangement of 3 iron spheres, each 3 m, 2 m and 1.5 m in diameter. Since June 30, 2007, the balls have been in a free space some 100 m from the sky ladder towards the mountain. They were designed by the artists Hans Thurner and Ute Lechner from Obing.

The Schäfer Kämpf monument commemorates Karl Kämpf, who died on October 15, 2014, who lived here on the canal and also tended his sheep here.

This shepherd monument is right on the old canal. With the statue, the Oberölsbach family paid tribute to Karl Kämpf, who had been the shepherd of the canal for many years, four years after his death
