Possibly one of the best road descents in the country.

Usually into the prevailing wind, but quick nonetheless. You can let it go until you get to the trees, when you need to prepare for the twisting road & restricted view of oncoming traffic. The cattle grid at half way is a bit of a brute. Suggest you get out of the saddle for this moment.

The above comment applies if you are descending into Askrigg. If heading into Swaledale, the descent starts, rolling and twisting. Try to keep looking ahead for a heads up of oncoming traffic (rare, but important, obvs.). As you get to the last section it steepens dramatically. Pray for dry roads, disc brakes & fat tyres! Once you pass the farm near the bottom, beware of significant gravel after rain, mostly on the final steep turn to the valley road.
