The picturesque fishing village with its striking silhouette of mill and church enchants with its harbor and numerous cafes and restaurants. The last Ems ferry to Emden Petkum also runs from here.

Ditzum is an East Frisian fishing and harbor village on the southern bank of the Lower Ems River, about 2 km before its confluence with the Dollart River. It is located in the Rheiderland region and, since a municipal reform in 1973, has been part of the municipality of Jemgum in the Leer district. With approximately 700 inhabitants and an area of 20.4 km², the village is the second largest of Jemgum's eleven districts. Due to its remote location in the northwesternmost corner of the Rheiderland region, it is also known as the "Endje van de Welt" (End of the World). Its sluice harbor, with its centuries-old continuity and one of the last functioning sluices, is unique in East Frisia. The historical connection between the terp settlement with its windmill, Romanesque church, and church tower in the form of a lighthouse (1846), as well as the harbor and the inland drainage system through the sluice with its "Hühnerbrücke" (Chicken Bridge), is still evident and significant today. This distinguishes the town from similarly structured terp villages in the Lower Ems, which have often lost their original sluice port function due to dike relocation. The Ems ferry stationed in Ditzum, serving the Emden district of Petkum, is the last remaining Ems ferry on East Frisian soil.
