Beach at Lake Dümmer

The Dümmer is nestled between the Dammer Mountains in the northwest and the Stemweder Berg in the southeast in the area of the Dümmer Nature Park, surrounded by the low and high moors of the Diepholzer Moorniederung.

The Dümmerniederung is known nationwide as a popular excursion destination and (local) recreation area. With a maximum water depth of only 1.50 m, the lake offers inexpensive swimming and water sports. With its unique flora and fauna, it is the preferred area for many bird species as a breeding and resting place. The west and south banks of the lake and a strip on its east bank are largely protected.

The Dümmer lake is located in the south-western part of Lower Saxony in the city triangle of Bremen, Hanover and Osnabrück. Most of it is in the Diepholz district. But borders in the south on the Osnabrücker Land and the district of Minden Lübbecke (NRW), as well as in the north on the district of Vechta and the Oldenburger Münsterland.
