The idea for the work arose from an exploration of the site. It harks back to the formation of Lake Dümmer approximately 13,000 years ago and to the presumably first settlement in the Neolithic period, as documented by excavations.

The house symbolizes the permanent arrival of humans in this previously untouched landscape. To secure their existence in this place, they began to influence natural conditions. They engaged in fishing, agriculture, livestock farming, and protected themselves from flooding.

This continues to this day and creates a tension between nature conservation, agriculture, and tourism in the region.

The two steles, with their closed form, stand alone and, in their uniqueness, form a break between the many vertical, purpose-built objects along the shoreline path.
