"The Jagdschloss Granitz was built in 1837 by the Berlin architect Johann Gottfried Steinmeyer for Prince Wilhelm Malte I of Putbus. It lies in the middle of one of the largest contiguous forest areas of Rügen in the southeast of the island. As a landmark, the plastered brick building crowns the Temple Mount , designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel center tower towers over the hilltop and is visible from afar.
The castle once served as a residence for princely guests during the hunting season. This is reminiscent of an extensive collection of trophies and historical salons. For more than 100 years, the hunting lodge has become a popular excursion destination for swimmers in Rügen. It currently receives about 130,000 guests from all over the world each year, making it one of the most visited museum institutions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Since 2003, the State Castles and Gardens M-V have been in charge of the Granitz hunting lodge. Representative salons, an extensive collection of trophies and the imposing marble hall convey an impression of the original furnishings. Modern museum media, with information about the castle, radio plays, model buildings and installations, create a varied contrast to the charm of the historic salons. With exhibitions, classical concerts and moonlight walks through the Granitz, guests are offered a varied program throughout the year. Even marriages are possible in the hunting lodge. Also I can recommend to pay the castle a visit. Just for the stairs and the view from the main tower worth the entrance. The exhibition is informative and not overloaded.

The large tower in the former courtyard of the castle was built according to the plans of the famous architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Another building on Rügen is the Schinkelturm on Cape Arkona.

The exhibition is recommended for children from 7 years. The ascent to the tower is rewarded with a great view.
For children, the playground that lies below the castle is a dream. The forest grill invites you to drinks and sausage.

In one opinion, the Jagdschloss is a bit kitsch. Unfortunately, the tower was closed due to Covid19 and therefore not accessible.
