The broad, south side of Pendle Hill is breached by two cloughs, deep gullies formed by streams. To the west, Odgen Clough is the deepest and most extensive, yet Boar Clough gives quicker access to the summit for those approaching from the Ogden Reservoirs. The route of the Pendle Way uses this weakness in the hill's defence.
