It has been in the district of Lüdermünd since the boundary corrections in the 19th century. Until then, it marked the border between the Hochstift Fulda and the Lords of Schlitz.
A meanwhile illegible inscription, which referred to Probst Winhihlus, who died in a feud, is also interpreted as an indication that it may be a question of atonement.
