An impregnable castle was probably built on a massive isolated rock at the end of the 13th century, its inaccessibility being enhanced by a system of ponds surrounding the entire rock block. However, in the mid-15th century the castle was conquered and devastated, and only parts carved directly into the rock survived from its medieval appearance. In 1680, hermits settled in the castle, and the castle's current appearance is the result of their extensive renovations. The mysterious labyrinth of corridors and rooms carved into the rock is the biggest attraction for visiting this remarkable monument.
