A beautiful castle that is unfortunately becoming more and more of a ruin.

      Gereuth Castle (Untermerzbach, Haßberge)

The village of Gereuth was created around 1300. The Lords of Memmelsdorf are mentioned in a document as the first owner.

In 1604 an elongated commercial building was erected in the north of the later castle, which is known as the "Old Castle" because of its representative structure. In 1705, the manor house came to Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau-Vollraths, who in the same year built a new country estate in keeping with his status started.

In 1714 the church with its terrace and the rectory was added. The ensemble is complemented by a granary, the rentier, the listed inn and the farm buildings east of the "Old Castle".

The three-wing complex in the late baroque style opens to the north to the palace square and the elevated parish church. The main courtyard is closed off by a wrought iron grille and a stone portal structure with triangular gable and Greiffenclau-Vollrath's coat of arms. The castle was surrounded by a moat until the 19th century. The palace is built on three floors.
