Supposedly, residents hid in the cave from the Turks. However, the rising smoke from cooking fires is said to have betrayed her. The Turks discovered, kidnapped or killed them. Archaeological excavations in 1981 contained coins, potsherds and bones and are supposed to confirm this historical tradition.
