Weißenstein Castle on the Staufer road is known worldwide less for its historical significance or its architecture than for what it contains. The owner, the micro-photographer Manfred P. Kage, who died in 2019, set up the Institute for Scientific Photography and “Kage’s Microverse” here. There are guided tours, events and even weddings in the castle's own wedding hall.

In 1971, the castle, owned by Albert Germanus Graf von Rechberg and Rothenlöwen, went to the microphotographer Manfred P. Kage, who set up an institute for scientific photography and a museum there and had the castle renovated. The castle has been a landmark on the Staufer Street since 1997. Parts of the castle, the chapel and the museum can be visited with groups after registration. More details can be found on the castle's homepage.

Weissenstein Castle probably dates back to around 1210 AD. Around the year 1400, the town received city rights. The castle is also worth seeing because of its castle chapel with the baroque altar, the wall paintings and figures. A special feature is the roofed church, which leads directly from the castle to the church in Weißenstein.

The castle got its current appearance with stepped gables, towers, bay windows and galleries at the beginning of the 17th century.

During a tour of the facility, you can admire the chapel, pharmacy museum, castle gallery, historical photo laboratory, exhibition on microorganisms, microtome collection, analog video studio, live video demonstration of plankton organisms, film and multivision lectures. Weißenstein Castle is known worldwide as a stronghold of microphotography.
