This modern church is designed according to the local landscape. It reminds of a wave from the outside. The church space is very spacious and open. A blue light floods the room. Definitely worth seeing. Successful modern sacral architecture.

The first St. Mary's Church was built in 1967 in the immediate vicinity of the campsite by the Cloppenburg architect Gerd Rohling for the small Catholic parish of Schillig, but above all for holidaymakers. However, the building materials did not withstand the harsh climatic conditions; In 2008, a need of 1.6 million euros was determined for building maintenance alone. So the decision was made at the diocese level to start an inviting new building at the exposed and much-visited place. The foundation stone was laid after the old church was demolished in autumn 2010. The construction costs are put at 4.7 million euros, a large part of it for the complex foundations in the soft and damp subsoil. The Bonifatiuswerk and numerous individual donors contributed to the financing.
