In memory of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, the builder of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the square in the center of Marmagen was named "Eiffelplatz". There is also a memorial plaque about the ingenious constructor's roots in Marmagen.

One of his ancestors named Bönickhausen emigrated to France from Marmagen at the beginning of the 18th century. There he called himself "Eiffel" after the landscape of his homeland to make it easier to pronounce. Alexandre Gustave was born in Dijon in 1832 and trained as an engineer in Paris.

Eiffel planned bridges, department stores, train stations and other structures in all parts of the world, his specialty were ingenious iron structures. Among other things, the 'skeleton' of the Statue of Liberty comes from him! Source: nettersheim.de/home/wissenswertes/alexandre-gustave-eiffel.html

The fact that there is an Eiffelplatz in the village of Marmagen in the Eifel is not a typographical error. The designer of the world-famous Paris "Eiffel Tower", GUSTAVE EIFFEL, has his family roots here. Its most famous building can be found as a hiking highlight here: komoot.de/highlight/99285

the place itself is not a special attraction. However, the information board on the history of the Bönickhausen / Eiffel family and the connection to the Eiffel Tower in Paris is interesting
