The historic city center of Peitz impresses with its closed image: squares and street spaces are well-proportioned, the town hall with a Tudor-style window in sight stands out only discreetly from the surrounding town houses. In the 16th century, strategically located as a Brandenburg enclave in Saxony, a fortress with its own ironworks was built. The well-known Peitzer ponds were used for fish farming, but also for defense purposes. The former fortress trenches are still recognizable from the fortress tower in the course of the road today. Outside the old town are cloth mills and an old ironworks from the industrial era.

A lovingly designed little museum. There's something for almost every taste. There's a small section on the history of the town, the history of the ironworks, the history of fishing, the blast furnaces, a mineral and fossil collection, a water section, and a small fishing museum. It's also child-friendly: there are things to try out. There's also an opportunity for meditation and relaxation: watching carp from above.
