The Catholic Church of Saint Hubertus in Nideggen-Schmidt - popularly known by the nickname "Saint Mocca" - is a good example of how a church can also be used: on the one hand, the former baptistery now houses a national park information point, on the other the church roof is a solar power plant. What is particularly impressive in the church is the design of the "Friedenskapelle", which reminds of the many dead from war and tyranny - and thus urges the preservation of peace!

About the patronage: Saint Hubertus, to whom the church is consecrated here in Schmidt, lived from 655 to 727 and is a very popular saint, best known as the patron saint of the hunters. A deer with a glowing cross between the antlers is said to have appeared to him, which is often shown on Hubertus portraits. This legend was originally attributed to Saint Eustachius and over time it 'wandered' to Hubertus. His feast day is November 3rd.
