Turnberry Castle is a fragmented ruin these days, only the lower vaults and cellars remain intact. However, it was once a mighty fortification and the seat of the Earls of Carrick. It is unknown when the castle was built. Robert the Bruce who ordered its destruction in 1310 to stop the English seizing it once again.

The lighthouse is now the main attraction.

Stunning view across the Firth of Clyde to the south side of Arran.
