“Prospective – legendary – natural” is the motto of the St. Andrew's Trail around Altenschlirf, which was named after the St. Andrew's Church in the heart of the town.
The onion dome of the Protestant church, which is rather unusual for the Vogelsberg, is visible from large parts of the path.
The well-marked route leads to scenic, historic and legendary places in the area. The highest point on the route is the wooded summit of the almost 500 m high Heerhain. From there we go into the Altfell valley with its colorful mountain meadows. The headless “Schafhöfer” is also said to be haunted here, which is why we warn against nocturnal visits!
In addition to the great view at the Vier-Dörfer-Blick and the former center of the Federal Republic of Germany, the highlights of the trail also include the basalt quarry, which allows you to look deep into the interior of the former volcano, and the Wild Stone, a picturesque rock formation and geotope of the year 2017. The “White Woman” is at home here and you don’t want to meet her in the dark.
