Around here used to be the drawbridge that gave access to the courtyard of Saterslo Castle, one of the first castles in Twente. This fortress has been besieged, conquered and rebuilt many times throughout its rich history.

During the Reformation, the lord of the castle gave the Catholics from the area the opportunity to go to church here. No wonder that in the 19th century the already dilapidated castle gave way to a church building.

The new St. Plechelmuskerk was inaugurated in 1926.
