Mountain Biking Highlight
Above the historic town center of Arnsberg, on the 256 m high Schlossberg, lies the Arnsberg castle ruins. The former castle complex reaches a length of approx. 250m in north-south direction from the moat to the castle gate, with an east-west extension of a maximum of 70m. The partly renovated enclosing walls, a total of around 650m long, enclose a castle area of approx. 2 hectares.
The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1102. The Counts of Werl-Arnberg had moved their headquarters to Arnsberg at the turn of the 11th / 12th century and started construction.
From up there you have a fantastic view of Arnsberg and the surrounding area.

Always great to see and be able to visit the old ruins of a castle like this one. Unfortunately in july 2020 the ruins have been closed off to the public due to falling stones. Hope they fix that soon.
