Declared as a difficult hike, but I went up to the Ivonskyhütte with my 7-year-old daughter and she passed with flying colors. I'm very untrained myself and a Munsterland lowland tourist. Yes, it's exhausting, yes, you need hiking shoes and yes, you have to watch where you step. But it can be done. Pack enough water (3l minimum) then it is also doable at almost 30⁰C, as most of the time it is through the forest in the shade. I would always go up to the left, then you end up in the Strohwollen Gorge. Pack a hammock and a towel, then you can cool off your feet directly in the cold mountain stream. Definitely worth a try. Nice view and a good challenge for the weaker self.
