The church has an octagonal floor plan, unique in Northern Germany.

According to local legend, this originates from the crusading knight Wipert von Morin. The von Morin castle was located northeast of Ludorf, facing Lake Müritz, and was abandoned after the Thirty Years' War. The castle hill with its surrounding moat (signposted "Turmhügel") still bears witness to this.

The manor church was built by a Crusades veteran, the knight Wipert von Morin, who brought the idea of the octagonal church with him from the Holy Land. Unique in Northern Germany, it shares the same floor plan as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Consecrated in 1346, it is believed to be a good 150 years older.

Also noteworthy is the attached von Knuth family crypt, built in 1736 by Adam Levin II von Knuth, the hereditary lord of Ludorf and Gneve, and containing a total of nine well-preserved oak coffins. Numerous coats of arms of the family members by marriage are displayed on the wrought iron crypt door and on the walls.

The church is open to visitors daily, but by appointment only during the winter months.

A very rare church plan, which had its first mention in 1346. It is a Gothic brick building.
