Mighty and imposing, the pilgrimage site of Maria Weissenstein blends seamlessly into the charming natural landscape of the Eggental Valley. Every tree and every meadow here seems to be inspired by the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the hermit Leonhard Weissensteiner, who encountered the Virgin Mary in 1553 after falling into a deep ravine. He built a chapel in her honor, which has since been further developed and is now an impressive pilgrimage site and namesake of the village near Petersberg.
