The Erenstein castle ruins lie above Züttlingen on a wooded ridge and stand as a silent witness to centuries past. Only a few remnants of walls and foundations remain of the former castle complex, but these give a glimpse of how the small fortification once towered over the Jagst valley.

It is not known when Ernstein Castle (Erenstein) was built. It was owned by a noble family Ernstein, later Ganerbeburg and finally from around 1400 in the possession of the Lords of Helmstatt. Then the castle came into the possession of Rüdt von Bödighausen, who sold the building to Konrad von Weinsberg in 1443. The castle was probably destroyed in the city war of 1449.
Today the moats and ramparts, wall remnants and the approximately 5 by 5 meter high tower stump are still preserved.
The castle is freely accessible.
