A nice summit experience. The Capella Granata was completed in autumn 2013 and is an architectural gem in the Zillertal mountains. It was designed by the Swiss star architect Mario Botta and consists of a wooden frame construction on which pre-rusted steel plates have been attached to the outside.

The Garnet Chapel, located on the sunny plateau of the Penkenjoch, east of the reservoir bank, is definitely worth a short stop. This beautiful chapel made of local wood and steel unites the history and landscape of the Zillertal in a unique way. It should represent the strict contrast between the rationality of man and the organic essence of nature. As a real eye-catcher, it is dedicated to the Blessed Engelbert Kolland, whose home community, Ramsau im Zillertal, can be seen from the chapel.
The Granatkapelle, or Capella Granata, is the first building in Austria by the Swiss star architect Mario Botta. It was not without reason that he gave the chapel the shape of a rhombic dodecahedron, as it is the smallest shape of a cut garnet. Also called "carbuncle stone", this is considered a Zillertal folk gemstone, after all it was mined here for centuries. Garnets still adorn the Zillertal women in traditional costume as traditional pieces of jewelry!
