The Schober belongs to the Schafberg group of the Salzkammergut mountains.
With its 1328 m above sea level. A. is the Schober the highest elevation in the edge of the terrain, whose logical continuation beyond the Schatzwand (1264 m above sea level) forms the imposing Drachenwand (1176 m above sea level) above the Mondsee. It is one of the Salzkammergut in the Salzkammergut hundreds of meters high demolition front of the overhanging ceiling of Dachstein lime against the low foothills of the flysch zone (Kolomansberg) to the Alpine foothills. To the west, the foot of the Drachenwand-Schober-Kante runs into the Thalgauegg corridor between Thalgau and Fuschlsee, which, broken through by the Fuschler Ache, ends in the Heuberg near Salzburg. Before the crashes lies a wooded Schuttfuß on the north side with mighty block heaps.
The southern slopes fall wooded and middle part against Fuschlsee and Eibenseebach from the Eibensee.
The summit of the summit Frauenkopf (1304 m above sea level) rises above the Schober summit southwards via Fuschl am See.
