Best Mountain Biking Routes to Hirtstein Basalt Fan

Tips

  • Here is one of the most fascinating natural monuments in Europe: the Bassaltfächer. This geological phenomenon is solidified lava that emanated millions of years ago and solidified on the surface as a 15-meter-high basalt structure in the form of a palm frond. In May 2006 the basaltic fan was classified by the Academy of Geosciences in Hanover as one of the most important geotopes in Germany.
