The approx. 800-year-old medieval castle stands on a slate spur above the town of Alken on the Moselle and is therefore a spur castle type.
During the 13th century, the German imperial crown was kept here.
The castle is still privately owned, but can be visited all year round for a fee
Worth seeing: chapel, wine cellar and castle dungeon with torture chamber.

The ruins of Thurant Castle (also Thurandt) stand on a broad slate spur high above the village of Alken on the Moselle. It lies in the district of Mayen-Koblenz (Rhineland-Palatinate) and belongs to the type of spur castles. A special feature - in addition to the location on the steep shoulder of the valley - are the vineyards on the sunny side.
