The historic ferry connection was revived in 1995 on the initiative of the city of Speyer and the municipality of Oberhausen / Rheinhausen.

The ferry connects the municipality of Oberhausen-Rheinhausen on the Baden side and Speyer on the Palatinate side. Already in Roman times there was an important road junction with the crossing of the Rhine. The Rheinhausen ferry was first mentioned in historical documents in 1296.

Today, the ferry connection is operated by Verkehrsbetriebe Speyer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Speyer, together with the shipping company Hessenauer.

The ferry service begins on the Friday that precedes the first school-free Monday of the beginning Easter holidays (in Rhineland-Palatinate or Baden-Württemberg) and ends on the first Sunday after the last school-free Friday of the autumn holidays (in Rhineland-Palatinate or Baden-Württemberg) .

The delivery times from Speyer are on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate or Baden-Württemberg from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (from October 1st until 7 p.m.).

The ferry runs when required, but at least every 30 minutes. The crossing takes five to ten minutes.

The small ferry probably only on weekends. But it is quite quaint - there are also drinks to buy. With bike I paid 2,40. The swell of jet skis and speedboats make themselves felt on the small boat.

The ferry operates only on weekends and public holidays. From 11 o'clock, if I remember correctly. Otherwise you have to drive about 5 km to the bridge in Speyer.
