    Road cycling

Outstanding views make this route a must, but be aware that as the road is no longer open to motor vehicles, it is no longer maintained so you will find a fairly poor surface with loose chippings.

Consider a gravel bike or road bike with fatter tyres.

The Tyla (Gilwern to Pwll Du) is the least known way up the Blorenge mountain (made famous by The Tumble climb) but quite possibly the best. It's a narrow single track road which is now closed to motor traffic (indefinitely) but remains open to cyclists and walkers.

If you want to descend from the Tumble heading north then this is a great alternate route. The road is closed after the first half mile or so which does mean is not looked after so a fairly poor surface with lots of loose stuff. Recommend gravel bike or road bike with some fatter tyres. But that also means traffic free and it is very, very scenic. Enjoy.
