Easy ride to Southampton, without much climbing. A section up until Woking is quite busy, yet the rest is easy and quiet. Unfortunately, the route doesn’t have any highlights. 5/10 (good enough to ride it once, but not interesting enough to repeat)

Apparently, not all Essex is as grim as the road from London to Southend-on-Sea. I didn't think I need to check ferries timetable - it was a big mistake. We waited for the East Mersey - Brightlingsea ferry for 35 minutes just to be told "all bike spaces are booked in advance, there's 12 cyclists with tickets and the ferry can fit only 6". Well, a short ride to Fingringhoe then and change of plans? Sure! The landing is flooded. We had to ride to Rowhedge - thanks to ferrymen who waited for us. And another ferry Harwich - Shotley. There were only three of us (cyclists) and I booked the tickets in advance. Anyway, the schedule was quite tight. Good ride, though! And quite pretty lanes over there

The last stage - a shorter one! I must admit, if I ever decide to ride some sections of this route again, this will be it. Just fantastic views overlooking sea shore from huge hillsides. Probably, the most beautiful I’ve seen in Wales. Worth every minute of climbing. By the end of the stage I found that I have one less sandal (that great descent took its toll 🥲) and a broken shifter (oh well). And then 6 hours to get back home on trains.. mostly standing

The second day had to be slightly easier in terms of distance, but the total amount of climbing was roughly the same. Also there were no refill and refuel point along the route - so I had to prepare. Some sections even looked remote! And it felt a bit like in Scottish Highlands! Just a bit.. but it was enough. I can safely say the second day was as hard as the first one. I finished in busy Betws-y-coed with no water left and quite exhausted because of heat. A short visit to the convenience store and ride to a hostel.

Big day! At the very beginning I started thinking “huh, where are all these gravel roads..?” And then they started. Three major climbs were waiting for me! Boy, they delivered On the top of the last one (famous Roman Road) my rear rack disassembled 🤣 I spent 30 minutes fixing it and also figured out pressure in my tyres was way too high! No surprise I was riding like a ping pong ball. I also met several riders participating in North Wales 400 and wished them luck. Great day, but tough

Very nice route following (partially) NCR 2, which I like very much. The part beyond Folkestone is very flat and may be quite difficult to ride if it’s windy.

I decided to start in Gatwick because the connection to it is much faster (and cheaper). Well.. Don't repeat my mistakes. Those 15 minutes I saved on the travel were spent later on figuring out how to get out of there. Also the ride OUT of Gatwick is quite meh.
