Location: Valkenburg, South Holland, Netherlands
Valkenburg is a Dutch village and a former municipality in South Holland. As of January 1, 2006, the municipality of Valkenburg merged with the municipalities of Katwijk and Rijnsburg to form the new municipality of Katwijk with over 60,000 inhabitants. In 2019, Valkenburg had 5,920 inhabitants. Although the new name is simply "Valkenburg", with "(Katwijk)" behind it if necessary, the old name "Valkenburg (Zuid-Holland)" is still widely used to distinguish it from the other Valkenburg aan de Geul. The former municipality of Valkenburg had an area of 5.74 km² (of which 0.23 km² was water). There were no other centers within the municipal boundaries.
