Good shoes are recommended. Wonderful descent on the Hohenwittlingensteig.

The Hohenwittlingensteig is a premium hiking trail. Premium hiking trails are long-distance and circular hiking trails that are excellently marked and offer a particularly high level of adventure.

The Hohenwittlingensteig crosses the Wolfsschlucht. Here some alpine experience, surefootedness and sturdy, ankle-high shoes are a must.
The rock formations are really impressive.
At the end of the gorge (if you come from above) you dive into the history of mankind with the Rulamanweg. The information boards look back on the last 600,000 years.

The Wolfsschlucht near Bad Urach is one of the wildest gorges in the Middle Alb.
The Wolfsschlucht is located in a right side valley of the Ermstal south of Bad Urach.
A special feature of the lush green Wolfsschlucht, with a mostly dry watercourse, is the iron staircase, with the help of which one overcomes a part of the gorge that is otherwise difficult to access. In the damp gorge, which is pleasantly cool even in summer, you can marvel at the impressive sinter terraces that were created by mineral deposits.
You have to reckon with slippery, muddy and rocky parts of the way. Surefootedness is necessary.

The entrance to the gorge is like a small, alpine path - very nicely laid out. Surefootedness is required.
