After a long climb, the Vigiljoch is finally reached. A beautiful view over the South Tyrolean mountain landscape is reward for the long and exhausting driveway from Marling to the Vigiljoch. The descent in the direction of Aschbach is an experience!

A beautiful view over the South Tyrolean mountain landscape is reward for the long and exhausting driveway from Marling to the Vigiljoch. There are different options for the descent: Either on the same way back over the Naturnser Alm, over Darling in direction Meran, or (my favorite) over Aschbach down to the Adige. If you like it sporty, use the mountain bike trails in the direction of Lana (keep in the direction of the cable car).

Vigiljoch in the narrower sense refers to a 1743 m s.l.m. high crossing over the north-eastern foothills of the Zufrittkamms of the Ortler Alps in South Tyrol (Italy). This is located between smaller, mostly wooded hilltops and is the site of the church of St. Vigil am Joch with frescoes from the 14th century. In the broader sense, Vigiljoch is also the name given to the surrounding mountain ridge without distinctive peaks, which rises between the lower Vinschgau, the Burggrafenamt around Meran and the entrance to the Ultental valley, and in the south-westerly direction gains considerable height again towards the Naturnser Hochjoch.

Condition-strong MTB tour of Tscherms or Lana over the Almboden. Then continue to Naturnser Alm. Back then via Pawigel direction Uldental then branch off to Lana

The church and the view are beautiful, but they do not kill you. The MTB trails towards Lana at the Alpbach railway are really great

From Vigiljoch various hiking or biking trails lead down into the valley or on the mountain, for example. to the Naturnser Alm or Gasthaus Seespitz at the Schwarze Lacke. Overall, however, it is quite well visited around the Vigiljoch, so it is particularly important to take the hikers consideration. Some trails are closed to mountain bikers / cyclists. Corresponding signs point out. If the condition is adequate, it is even possible with children, for example from the mountain station Aschbach follow the signs to Vigiljoch. In the Gasthaus Seespitz you can then enjoy the food very well.

Very nice up there - but be careful, the wild horses like to nibble on the bicycle tire ...

Nice little church that fits photogenically between alpine meadows and forest.

The nice thing about the Vigiljoch are the many opportunities for biking and hiking as well as the numerous nice alpine restaurants.

Warning - I had no internet connection in the area around the Vigiljoch - it is best to make the tour available offline
