St. Martin Church in Aschering

Aschering is a village west of Lake Starnberg around 35 kilometers south of Munich in the Upper Bavarian five-lake region and belongs to the municipality of Pöcking. It has the shape of a heap or church village arranged around the church and has been able to preserve its rural appearance to this day, despite further settlement. Extensive cultivation and pasture areas stretch around the town.
Ascheringin was first mentioned in 1010 in connection with land donations to Polling Monastery by King Henry II. However, previous archaeological finds from the previous century - large burial mound fields from the Hallstatt period scattered around - suggest a settlement as early as early Bavarian or pre-Christian times.The history of the previously independent municipality of Aschering ended on July 1, 1972, when it was incorporated into Pöcking as part of the regional reform.A regional band has named itself after the place name Aschering Blues.Aschering celebrated its 1000th anniversary from July 16 to 19 in 2010.

Beautiful, tranquil little town with a church worth seeing.

The local history is described on an information board in the center. It's a very nice place with a nice hiking trail along the Ascheringer Bach.
