Cycling
The airfield was built in 1934-1935 and was called "Giebelstadt Air Base". It was occupied by a German Air Force combat squadron. Attacks were even flown over England from here. Hitler visited the airfield in 1936. After 1945 the Americans had an air base. The site is now the commercial airport and industrial area.

In the 1980s, motorcycle races for the German Championship and OMK Cup also took place at the airfield.
