Wine was already being grown here in the 15th century by Augustinian monks from Old Dresden. However, this came to a halt at the end of the 19th century. The street on which the site is located is named after the training ground of the Privileged Target Shooting Society of Dresden, which was inaugurated on a former winery in early July 1875 and named Schützenhof. The society had previously purchased the former winery for 30,000 thalers and built a Schützenhof on the site, which became a popular excursion destination for the people of Dresden. Since 1992 it has been used as the headquarters of the Saxon State Office for Political Education.
