A really impressive castle complex: the buildings are beautiful and the park is very well maintained. In the historic vault of the former game cellar in the Osnabrück pavilion you will also find a restaurant and a café. If you want to have dinner here, it is advisable to reserve a table in advance. Of course you can also visit the castle itself.

    Opening hours:
March: Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    April to August from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You can find more information about the castle here:

  • Castle Clemenswerth was built from 1737 to 1747 as a hunting lodge for Clemens August I of Bavaria. It consists of a main castle and eight symmetrically arranged pavilions in a spacious park. Visual axes in the park allow the view of the castle from afar.

  • Agricultural landscape meets landscape architecture - out of nowhere there is suddenly this ornate treasure chest full of beautiful trees, ponds, visual axes and buildings. Nice to kneel.

  • It is THE highlight of the Hümmling, the Clemenswerth hunting lodge with its star-shaped grounds and the spacious park with its abundant opportunities for strolling and strolling. When exploring, neither the Mars stable nor the ponds at the far end of the area should be overlooked. If the opportunity arises to be able to visit the building of the castle from the inside, that is also an enrichment. The same applies, of course, to the castle church.

  • Worth seeing castle in the Emsland. There are guided tours in the castle. The monastery garden is small but worth seeing. The 1 € is worth it. Gastronomy is nothing special but everything is clean and the prices are reasonable. You have to see the deer up close.

  • Anyone interested in gardening and the landscape will discover astonishing moments of how well the complex has been constructed in relation to the architecture of the buildings. Everything works naturally - and yet "naturally" has been deliberately and purposefully created. Visual axes, waters, bridges - everything looks easy. And that's how it works. I'll be back. Large parts of the terrain are passable by bike.

  • It is amazing how much the architecture of the castle and the landscaping have been harmonized. The visual axes, the crossings, the ponds - everything follows a strict composition - which, despite its severity, looks light and harmonious. Totally thrilled: I will come back here! Large parts of the park are passable by bike where, in addition to the harmonious garden architecture, there is a wonderful, old tree population to admire.

  • A really great little castle with a very nice park.
You don't find something comparable very often.
Nice for a sightseeing and a stroll, cheap entry.
    Also very interesting for children.
    Well worth a visit.

  • The palace complex was built from 1737 to 1747 for Elector Clemens August I. The designs came from the Westphalian master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun.
The complex, consisting of a central main palace and eight pavilions, is one of the main works of Westphalian Baroque. The hunting lodge and its outbuildings are accessible to visitors and house the Emslandmuseum Schloss Clemenswerth.

  • Schloss Clemenswerth was conceived, designed and built at a time when Clemens August had reached the zenith of his power but was also in a political and personal crisis.

Fallen from well-established ties and therefore often hostile, energetically courted by possible new allies, Clemens August decided in the 1730s - constantly fleeing from new responsibilities - to build a hunting lodge in the northernmost corner of his territories, in the Münster Niederstift, in the so-called " Emsländisches Quartier", three days' journey from his residence city of Bonn.

Clemenswerth Castle should be free of political obligations and pressure to make decisions in its purpose as a place for hunting and all the associated pleasures.

  • The hunting lodge had been on my watch list for a while, but somehow it had never turned out that way. But now I've finally made it and I'm still impressed with the system. Everything is well maintained, pleasantly quiet and invites you to take a relaxing walk. I'm glad to finally have been there. But it was certainly not the last time 👍
