From 1 January 2007 and the accession of Romania and Bulgaria, the geographical center of the European Union was until 1 July 2013 in Gelnhausen - more precisely in the Gelnhausen district of Meerholz. The measuring point lies exactly at the coordinates: 9 degrees, 9 minutes east longitude and 50 degrees, 10 minutes, 21 seconds north latitude - below the "Niedermittlauer Heiligenkopf", that is one of the three witness mountains in the Kinzigtal.

It is still a well-kept place, and it is worth taking a break here and reading the information about the former EU centre.
