Tips

  • FINALLY OPENED AGAIN !!!The popular viewing platform “Bird's Nest” in Hochheim on the regional park route has been renovated. Heavily weathered wooden elements were replaced by hot-dip galvanized steel. For almost four years, the “Bird's Nest” viewing platform on the regional park route between Wiesbaden-Delkenheim and Hochheim am Main was closed to visitors. Nobody was allowed to climb the narrow spiral staircase to enjoy the panoramic view over the Hochheimer level to Mainz, over Wiesbaden and to the Taunus from a height of 7.50 meters. The building, which was mainly made of wood in 2001 as one of the first landmarks in the Rhine-Main Regional Park, was showing its age and no longer complied with the safety regulations.
From here you have a view of the nearby gravel pit landscape and the Silbersee. Flora and fauna in the future nature reserve can be observed from there without the wildlife being disturbed.
!!! Due to the corona pandemic, a maximum of five people are allowed to stay on the platform at the same time until further notice !!!

  • With its eccentrically mounted nest rings and the large, irregularly inclined supports, the pulpit is reminiscent of a bird's nest that rests in the forks of a tree. In the surrounding flat landscape, the bird's nest is a landmark that can be seen from afar and represents a symbol for the nature and bird sanctuary that is being created here.If you climb the 40 steps of the spiral staircase, you really have the feeling of being safe in a nest. The arrangement of the wooden rings creates viewing slits that allow a wide view of the surroundings of the gravel pit and the “Silbersee” as well as the entire Rhine-Main area. From the bird's nest you can watch and hear numerous animals in the ponds and pools, on the gravel walls, embankments and in the alluvial forest. At the same time, visitors are hidden behind the nest rings and do not disturb the fauna of the nature reserve.
