Information about the airport:
From 1910 onwards, the Wiesbaden horse racing track was located on the site. The Erbenheim racetrack was converted into an airfield in 1928/1929. Even before the First World War, aircraft took off and landed here.
In 1936 the German Luftwaffe took over the airfield. During the Second World War, bombing raids on London were carried out from here.
The headquarters of the US Army Europe and the US Army Garrison Wiesbaden as well as the transmitter AFN Wiesbaden are also located at the Wiesbaden-Erbenheim airfield. The base is named after US General Lucius D. Clay.
