This is where the Little Colorado River drains into the larger Colorado River, mixing its waters with stunning colors. In dry periods, the Little Colorado River's water color is an intense powder blue from dissolved travertine, a form of limestone. The river is fed by groundwater flowing from springs a few miles above the confluence. In the wet season, the water has most likely a light brown color like milky coffee. The water is not potable, even after treatment. If you need water, take it from the larger Colorado River.

The color of the Colorado River depends on Glen Canyon Dam. If the flowrate is low, the Colorado is an emerald green. It can also show a light brown color from its sediments, when the water level is high.
