The Villa Kaltehofe was built as a branch office of the Hygiene Institute of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Since 2011, it houses the Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe Foundation, which runs a small museum and restaurant

The filter plant was decommissioned in 1990 and the 22 pools with their valve houses were left to nature. A few years ago, a small part of the site was released to the public. The largest part of the area is still fenced and reserved for nature and animals. The slide house can therefore only at the opening times (Tue-Sun in April-October 10-18 clock, November-March 10-17 clock, information: wasserkunst-hamburg.de) to examine from close proximity. Otherwise you have from the opposite dike a nice view over the grounds. In the former administration building of the waterworks there is a café (delicious, but surprisingly expensive), in the summer with an outdoor terrace. The island of Kaltehofe is as well as car-free, as the cars can only drive to the car park of Wasserkunst. There are more cyclists, inline skaters and walkers.

Water filter plants which were actively operated until 1990 and are currently under monument protection. A very nice park that is worth a visit.

Nice insect hotel with wonderful explanations of which "rooms" are suitable for which insects. Ideal for everyone who would like to build and set up such an insect hotel themselves.

The concrete cube belongs to the exhibition on the Elbe island Kaltehofe and can only be reached underground via the main house. Honestly: This concrete Klops belongs here like a bunch of shit ... on a plate.

The diversity and number of our small roommates is so important. Nature needs them and each of us can do something for them.

If you want to stop off after your hike, then “Entenwerder1”, which is easy to reach on foot, is particularly recommended.
A café in the middle of the North Elbe.

The Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe Foundation is a foundation committed to maintaining the former waterworks on the Elbe island Kaltehofe in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort.
Its program also includes the promotion of nature conservation, landscape management, environmental protection and the promotion of art and culture.
Part of the foundation are a filtration system from the end of the 19th century as an industrial monument and a nature park with a nature trail.
The project was implemented by the Hamburg architects Studio Andreas Heller Architects & Designers.

I love this corner. Here you can hike, walk, ride a bike or just take a walk. There are 2 cafés, the one in the museum and Entenwerder 1 on Billerhuder Insel. You can see and observe many songbirds and birds of prey and various water birds on the water. It is worth taking binoculars with you. If you want, you can run a 15 km loop from Rothenburgsort via Kaltehofe to the turning point at Tatenberger Schleuse and back on the other side of the Elbe. The route on the dike is an official part of the Elbe Cycle Route. Beautiful
